It is very hard to apply to jobs without a referral from someone within the organization to help get your resume infront of the hiring manager. But if you have to “blindly” apply to a job you should always customize your resume and cover letter to fit that position. Highlighting skills and work experiences that match the job description will help your chances of your resume getting noticed, but if you are applying to many jobs this can get tedious and very time consuming.
Resunate is an online web-app that will automate this process for you. Simply create an account and upload your resume, or import your LinkedIn profile, then copy and paste a job description. This will generate a “JobFocus Score” showing you how well your resume matches the job description. The application works by using something called “semantic technology,” which is based off of word associations rather than just buzz words that match up. After the score is processed you can see where you need to edit to improve your match to the job specifications.
There is also a feature called “Auto Focus,” which will automatically redistribute bullet points in terms of relevance, adjust to a certain page limit, and removes irrelevant information. There are also several templates to choose from should you want to change the look and layout of your resume. Unfortunately, unlike the other web-apps I have been blogging about, Resunate is not completely free. There is a basic free package that will give you an unlimited amount of customized resumes to save, but only three “Auto Focus” attempts. If you want more you can upgrade to a premium plan which costs $14.95 per month, $59.95 for 6 months, and $99.95 for a year.
Let us know if using Resunate helps get your resume to the top of the pile and your foot in the door!
